The short story titled "The Gentlemen of the Jungle," by Jomo Kenyatta, was written in the 1950s. This story pertains mostly to the country of Kenya and other East African nations. Kenyatta's purpose for writing this story was to exhibit the idea that the way in which you go about standing up for the things in life that are rightfully yours makes all the difference. And, that going about situations in a calm and cooperative manner can have the largest impact. I think that this short story was written in this manner, because it puts people's imaginations to work in the sense that it is easy to get a point across when using humans and everyday situations, but it has an entirely different impact when using jungle animals and old African proverbs. In respect to the proverb at the end of the story which states "much silence has a mighty noise," the meaning of this is most likely that when someone is forced to comply and withhold their thoughts and preferences for such a long time, in the end, their actions have the largest impact.
